Primary Logo Explorations
Trying to blend the grunge, yet clean world of tattoos meant starting from ground zero. I pulled elements from all over tattoo culture such as tattoo machine, ink blots, dripping ink, traditional tattoo typefaces, and more.

Final Primary Logo
The Primary logo features a bold sans serif with a layered gothic, old english type on top. This lockup became the main logo which will be seen across all forms of media.
The primary logo is also the basis for several headings throughout this project.

Secondary Logo + App Icon Explorations
I decided to utilize the Gothic type from the subheading due to it's character. I also dipped into potential elements that were to be featured in the guide book such as a tattoo machine, location marker, and simple sword.
Final Secondary Logo + App Icon
The gothic old english "I" was chosen to represent the brand in the secondary logo. Pulled from the "I" in "Ink" in the primary logo, I felt that it did a great job at being different, while also being bold a memorable. Pairing that with a gold gradient felt clean, yet rebellious, reminiscent of the tattoo world.
First draft of potential Guide Book spread
For the the Guide book, the goal is to create a booklet that can be easily browsed to find the most renowned shops in your area. It's also created to help the reader decide on how or what they want to get tattooed. This version is specifically for the San Diego area.

Final Spreads + Printed Guide Book
The printed Guide Book is in an 8x8 format and comes complete with a table of contents, introduction pages, top ranked tattoo parlors, and a map to detail all of the shops in the city of San Diego. Overall, this fills the void of direct guidance in the tattoo space. Tattoos are primarily contingent on social media and word to mouth, but this guide book makes discovering your next work of art an easy and unforgettable experience.
Next up: Mobile Phone App
Mobile Phone App
The next extension of this concept would be a phone app, similar to Instagram or Pinterest, but directly tailored to tattoos, artists, and getting in contact with these people with ease. The goal is to create an app where the tattoo enthusiast can share tattoos, credit and follow their favorite artists, and create a timeline for their coveted work.
